Adult Formation

The Trinity Forum and Education Commission is working to present programs that nurture our common life and respond to the evolving needs of the parish. Input from the Appreciative Survey, a targeted topic survey, Trinity Forum presentations plus the diverse age and interest of the committee has informed our work. We expect them to evolve and be refined as needed.

Last year, Trinity Forum replaced the name Adult Forum to more accurately reflect the important intergenerational activities and family fellowship that occur at this time and serve to nurture our community life.

This year, we felt the need for a mission statement to guide and  clarify our purpose, and a program structure for the Trinity Forum that respects the limits of our building and service schedule. Both concepts are highlighted below:

Mission: to present educational offerings that enhance our spiritual growth, foster biblical knowledge, nurture community building and honor our Episcopal Church foundation.

Trinity Treasures in 30 Minutes: a structure for the Trinity Forum that allows time for fellowship, announcements, and a feature presentation.

  • Refreshments and beverages will be available on a table in the Parish Hall immediately after the 9:15 service.
  • Announcements will be requested after about 15 minutes of fellowship.
  • The presentation will be 30 minutes including discussion to honor those who attend the 11:30 service.
  • An interactive format with handouts for all attendees is encouraged to enhance discussion and further reflection.

Sunday Bible Study Opportunities
On Sunday mornings at 10:40 a.m. in the lounge, Lydia Hiatt leads a class using the curriculum from "Companions in Christ", a small group study which explores classic spiritual practices and invites participants to develop daily patterns that open their lives to a deepening relationship with God and one another. Please contact her at 817-306-8742 or lydiahiatt@yahoo.com for more information.

Also on Sunday mornings at 10:40 a.m., Kimberley Cooper leads a class for those who work with children or have children in Sunday School. Currently the class is doing a study of Acts, using material by Max Lucado. You can get a copy of the Lucado material at Mardel's for $10 or purchase a set from Kimberley when you come to class. Class schedule is tied to the children's program and therefore only meet when there is Sunday School scheduled for them. The class meets upstairs to the right in the last room on the left.

Cursillo is a three day course in Christian Living (Cursillo is a Spanish word meaning short course); the beginning of renewed apostolic calling. It proposes no new type of spirituality, but presents an orthodox, proven method through which one's spirituality may be developed, lived and shared.

The aim is to concentrate closely on the person and teachings of Christ and to provide a means to continue the Christian Life in a secular, and often hostile, world.

The 3 day weekend begins on a Thursday evening and ends the following Sunday afternoon. During the 3 days, the participants live in a community; listening to talks given by both clergy and laity. Each talk is followed by small group discussions.

During the three days, the teachings of Jesus Christ are discussed in a climate of joy and friendship, and celebrated with songs of praise. The basic atmosphere differs greatly from the individual solitude of a spiritual retreat. And unlike a spiritual retreat, a Cursillo weekend can be made only once.

To attend a Cursillo weekend, you must be a confirmed Episcopalian in good standing and at least 21 years old. Your parish priest or vicar must approve, and sign your application. Applications and brochures are in the parish hall. Contact Deacon Janet for details or visit the Episcopal Center for Renewal website at  www.episcopalrenewalcenter.org.
