Our Centurion Program

The Diocese of Fort Worth and the Diocese of Northern Malawi have had a fruitful relationship as "companion dioceses" since 1995. The warm-hearted people of Northern Malawi (see map) have modeled for us a profound faith in the midst of severe poverty and very difficult living conditions, and the people of our Diocese have been very generous in their spiritual and material support, meeting essential needs of the Diocese of Northern Malawi.

Recently a Centurion program was begun that is essentially a means of strengthening and deepening our relationship with the Christians of the Diocese of Northern Malawi at a more personal level. It involves the following points:

Christian solidarity
Extending our relationship
Negating the effects of famine
Thanksgiving for our shared prayer, mission and service
Understanding each other
Realistic goals
 Intercession for each other
Opportunity for mutual service
Nurturing and deepening our common faith

In the words of The Rt. Rev. Christopher Boyle, Bishop of the Diocese of Northern Malawi, “…it suggests strength, support, warriors…that each parish might be a part of a strong chain of prayer and support.” Our Centurion is Father Timothy Nyirenda, pictured at the right, newly ordained to the priesthood and currently serving in the Diocese of Northern Malawi. Fr. Bill Taylor can assist you in corresponding with Fr. Timothy, and we are all encouraged to keep Fr. Timothy in our prayers.
