Trinity Volunteers Needed for Kids Cafe Summer Lunch Program Update

Two volunteers are still needed for June 19 and four volunteers are needed for July 24. Details about the program are listed below.

Many children in our service area who have access to school breakfast and/or lunch programs do not have access to a nutritious evening meal. During summer school vacation these children do not have access to the one or two meals provided at school. In response to this need, this summer the South Central Alliance of Churches will partner with the Tarrant Area Food Bank to provide prepared lunches for children at high risk of hunger in a safe, accessible and convenient environment.

Trinity has volunteered to do Tuesdays of each week. We will offer box lunches provided by the Tarrant Area Food Bank during the hours of 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., on Tuesdays from June 12 - August 14 at the Southside Church of Christ at 2101 Hemphill Street, Fort Worth, TX 76110.

Because our office's neighborhood here in the 76110 zip code is an area in which more than 70% of children qualify for the federal free or reduced school lunch program, we are able to host a Kids Cafe. Because more than 90% of the children in our neighborhood qualify we do not have to take registration or enrollment.

We need five or six adult volunteers age 18 or older between the hours of 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. each Tuesday. There will be a sign up sheet in front of the kitchen where you may volunteer.

You need not need sign up for every Tuesday unless you want to. All help is greatly appreciated. Volunteer duties will include:

  • passing out boxed lunches
  • counting the number of children served
  • supervising the dining area
  • supervising and/or assisting with activities such as games, arts/crafts, music, videos, storytellers, etc.
  • set up and breakdown of the dining and activity area
