On Monday, September 10, the vestry of Trinity voted to issue a response to this letter. The text of our response follows.

Response of the Vestry - 09/21/07

Dear Bishop Iker,

In response to your letter entitled “The Realignment Moves Forward,” published on September 6, 2007, and with all due respect, the vestry of Trinity Episcopal Church wishes to make the following comments:

1. We are saddened that some congregations feel they can no longer remain faithful Anglicans while still remaining officially associated with the Episcopal Church.
2. We do not support the idea of Alternative Primatial Oversight, and therefore we do not view the meetings and conversations concerning it that have taken place over the summer months as encouraging or as working toward the peace and unity of the Church.
3. We do not see the meeting of Common Cause Partners as encouraging or as working toward the peace and unity of the Church.
4. We do not favor the Anglican Communion over The Episcopal Church. We do pray regularly for the leadership of both entities.
5. We pray continuously for the peace and unity of the Church as well as the leadership of this diocese.

Faithfully,
Elinor Normand, Senior Warden
